Our Favourite Birthday Party Games
We have put together some of our favourite birthday party games for children. Kids will enjoy playing classic party games while creating cherished childhood memories.
How to Play Musical Bumps
Children love anything with music playing and dancing at a birthday party. Arrange for the children to be dancing in the centre of the room. When the music stops, the children have to sit down very quickly. The last child to sit down is eliminated, and the game continues. The last child dancing is the winner and receives a small prize.
How to Play Musical Chairs
Arrange a line of chairs in a side-by-side row and alternate the direction each seat faces. Begin the music and ask the children to walk around the chairs. Once the music is turned off, each child needs to find a chair to sit on. After each round, a chair is taken away, so when the music is turned off again, one child will not have a chair and will be eliminated. The game continues until there are only two players and one chair.
How to Play Pass the Parcel
Pass the Parcel is a classic party game for children and one of the most exciting. Begin by wrapping up a small prize and continue to wrap the parcel with wrapping paper or old newspaper. In every alternate wrap, add a small treat to be discovered as the parcels are unwrapped. Arrange the children to sit in a circle. Start playing the music, and the children can begin passing the parcel around the circle. As the music stops, the children must stop passing the parcel. The child left holding the parcel unwraps one layer of gift wrap and unwraps a treat or not. The music is restarted and the game continues until the parcel is unwrapped and the gift is revealed.
Sack Race
For a sack race, you will need a large pillowcase for each player or you can play in teams and have a relay race, reducing the number of sacks you need. To begin the race, children must stand with their feet inside the sack and, on ‘go’ jump to the finish line or to their teammate if in a relay. The winner is the first player to cross the finish line or the first team to have all members over the line.
Egg and Spoon Race
Each player requires a spoon and a hard-boiled egg. Line up each child along the start line with the egg on the spoon in their hand in front of them. On the word “go,” the children need to race towards the finish line with the egg balanced on the spoon. If the egg is dropped, the player must pick it up, replace it on the spoon, and continue towards the finish line. The first one over the finish line is the winner!
How to Play What’s the time, Mr Wolf?
The person telling the time (Mr Wolf) stands at one end of the garden with their back to the players. All the other players stand and wait at the other end of the garden on the start line. The children must then ask the wolf, “What’s the time, Mr Wolf?” The wolf says a time, e.g. “It is 4 o’clock” The children take four steps towards the wolf. The children repeat the question and take steps nearer to the Wolf each time. When the Wolf shouts, “It’s dinner time”, the wolf tries to catch one of the children before they run back to the starting line. If the wolf catches someone, that child becomes the wolf, and the game starts again.
Puzzle Games
Transforming a children’s party into an engaging adventure, jigsaw puzzles for children add a delightful touch of creativity and camaraderie. The vibrant puzzle pieces become pathways to excitement as children gather around, eager to piece together a world of fun. The air is filled with laughter and collaboration as tiny hands work together to unveil the hidden image. This interactive and educational activity entertains and fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and cognitive skills. The sense of accomplishment on each child’s face as the final piece snaps into place makes the jigsaw puzzle a cherished party highlight.
In addition to puzzle games, another fantastic idea to entertain children at a party is creating a colouring-in table using one of our favourite Eggnogg Colouring-in Tablecloths. This activity is ideal for entertaining a crowd of children of all ages, sparking their creativity and providing a fun and engaging atmosphere. Kids can spend hours colouring. It’s a great way to keep them entertained and happy during the party. The Eggnogg coloring-in tablecloth will surely be a hit and create lasting memories for the kids attending the event.
Treasure Hunts
Treasure hunts are super fun and can easily be played inside or outside in the garden. All you need to do is hide some sweets/treats around the house or garden for the children to hunt. Ensure enough treats are hidden, as each player keeps what they find.
Now that you have the party game ideas, all you need to organise is the party food. For some fun and exciting party food ideas, we recommend BBC Good Food.
